Barriers

There is a time when we all draw a line
     and remain true to ourselves.
Those we love will try to rise above
     that boundary to get near.
It is up to you to stand true
     and know your limits.
Once they're inside, will you run and hide
     or follow through to the end?
The rewards demand for you to take that stand
     in order to survive.
But the heart entails, whether pass or fail
     to take a risk now and then.
So do not bow to the one who vows
     to take you down.
Be who you are; a bright star
     in the blackness of men.
